Radio streaming
Streaming a radio station over the Internet is very easy and in the past we have had stations up and running within 5 minutes of an initial enquiry!!
We use Windows Media, Real Media, Shoutcast, Icecast and Darwin servers although for most people we recommend Windows Media as the cheapest and easiest to maintain.
Users generally encode at 32kbps and broadcast from a static IP address using a “pull” account. This way a connection is only made when it is required. This is also the most fault tolerant system because if there is disruption to your connection the server will automatically reconnect to your stream as soon as it can (very useful for 24×7 streaming).
The alternative is to use a “push” account, which enables you to broadcast your radio station from a dynamic IP address.
Streaming radio stations is normally charged based upon the maximum number of people connection to the stream at any one time and billed monthly.
If you want to archive radio shows then this can be done and incorporated into a standard on-demand hosting account.
